Noble Gordon was recognized for his 50 years of
alumni membership by Dr. Shelby Thames, University President at the fall meeting
of the USM Birmingham Alumni. The fall luncheon was attended by 40 local alumnni
who listened to Dr. Thames' update on happenings at the University of Southern
Mississippi. Everyone was enthusiastic about the successes of the
University and the vision proposed for the future. Funding for faculty and
programs remain a priority and focus on the future potential.
Mr. Richard Giannini gave us an update on the athletic program. During the
next year plans will be finalized for the upgrade of facilities and fund raising
support. Reed Green coliseum is approaching its 35th anniversary and needs a
renovation. He made a strong commitment to the athletic programs and proper
facilities for the athletics and their sports.

Director are our guest speakers for the Southern Miss Birmingham fall meeting
for Alumni. Birmingham Area Alumni have been invited to the event
scheduled for Friday, November 8, 2002, 11:45 am -1:30 pm at Carrabba's Italian
Grill at 4503 Riverview Parkway, just off Highway 280 East. The cost is
$15.00 per person. Reservations are due by November 6, 2002. Contact
