Great win against Tulane. Get ready for the TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday, November 20, 2003. Catch the game live at the Rock on Thursday night or watch it on ESPN. This win guarantees a share of the conference championship, another win a week later against East Carolina will guarantee the conference championship and a trip to the Liberty Bowl. Go Eagles, beat the Horned Frogs. Great win against the Houston Cougars. Now 5-0 in Conference USA. Now we have the Battle of the Bell, Go Eagles beat the Tulane Green Wave and pave the way for the crown. Game time will be at 2:30 PM on November 15, 2003 at the Rock on the Southern Miss campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi Great win against South Florida the Rock in Hattiesburg. Now 4-0 in Conference USA. Great weekend for Homecoming coming up in Hattiesburg on Saturday, November 1st at 2 P.M. The Eagles will meet the Ragin Cagins who have a hot hand after winning their last two games after a slow start. Tailgating at the Southern Miss vs. Alabama game in Tuscaloosa on October 11 will be hosted by the USM alumni association and the M-Club of Alabama. Next football game is going to be against the Cinncinatti Bearcats in Cinncinatti, Ohio on October 4, 2003. Freshman quarterback, Damion Carter from New Orleans will be the starting quarterback. III" the Southern Miss vs UAB Pregame Tailgate Party .......sponsored by the Birmingham Chapter of the USMAA and District 10 Eagle Club When: Thursday, September 4th, 2003 before the 6:00 pm kickoff from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Where: At the large, rust-colored, steel-roofed pavilion, 200 yards east of Legion Field. Look for the State of Mississippi and Southern Miss flags flying. Directions to game: Legion Field in Birmingham What's Happening: The Birmingham Southern Miss Club will be BBQing over 250 pcs. of chicken, and cooking several hundreds of Polk's Cajun sausage dogs to serve to Southern Miss supporters and friends. We will also have side items such as potato chips, beans, potato salad, as well as, beer, sodas, and candies. All FREE of CHARGE to Southern Miss supporters and friends. Additionally, we will be raising funds for the B'ham Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship Fund by offering for sale, lots of USM caps, jackets, shirts, and other merchandise provided by Ashley's Sporting Goods. A autographed Brett Favre football will be raffled off as well. Parking: Parking is available immediately by the pavilion, $5.00 per vehicle. Rod Davis is on the watch list for the Nagurski, Butkus and Lombardi Awards. Mark Haulman is on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award. Beat the Green Wave - Southern Miss vs. Tulane - November 23 at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Catch the game live or follow the game on the internet. November 23 is the Battle for the Bell, Southern Miss vs. Tulane. Take the Amtrak on down to New Orleans and enjoy a fine football game against one of Southern Miss' longest rivalries. Tulane has some talented players and they will give Southern Miss a good game of competitive football on the road. The team is playing for bowl position, possibly Mobile or Houston, depending upon the conference play of the other football teams in Conference USA. November 9, 2002, get ready its time for the USM vs. UAB game. UAB is a tough opponent in the Conference USA race, this may be our toughest road opponent for the year. This is a must game for Conference USA leadership and the opportunity for USM to stay in second place, Southern Miss, UAB and Louisville are all tied at 3-1 in the conference race. UAB has a 4-4 overall record versus the Southern Miss record of 5-3. Look for a good battle of defenses with the winner being determined by outstanding special team play and offensive punch. October 30, 2002, get ready its ESPN2 time for the USM vs. TCU game. TCU is a tough opponent in the Conference USA race, this may be our toughest road opponent for the year. This is a must game for Conference USA leadership, positive TV exposure and football program recognition. Find a good seat in front of the big screen TV and enjoy the game. USM and Hattiesburg fans plan a super sendoff for the football from the Southern Miss campus on Tuesday evening. TCU has a 6-1 record versus the Southern Miss record of 5-2. Look for a good battle of defenses with the winner being determined by outstanding special team play and offensive punch. October 19, 2002, get ready its time for Homecoming and the Southern Miss vs. Cincinnati game. Southern Miss vs. CINCINNATI at Roberts Stadium on the USM campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Bearcats have played tough season opponents including their in state rival, Ohio State this year. The Eagles are ready for home competition after three road games and a bye week. Go Eagles beat the Bearcats. Enjoy a great day tailgating on campus and don't forget to plan for a come back trip for a scenic view of the real Mississippi. Autumn is a great time for a bike ride on the rails to trails route from Hattiesburg to Prentiss. The Longleaf Trace is a magnificent 39 mile bike or horse trail that goes along the old railroad right-of-way through a tree lined path and across the Jaybird Swamp in Jefferson Davis County. Rod Davis has made the semifinalist list announced October 17, 2002 for the Butkus Award. Congratulations Rod on the move up from the watch list.
October 12, 2002, get ready its time for the Southern Miss vs. South Florida game. Southern Miss vs. South Florida at Raymond James Stadium in beautiful Tampa, Florida. The Bulls have played tough season opponents, Oklahoma and Arkansas, this year. The Eagles are ready for competition again after having a bye week to relax and recover from early season competition. South Florida will be a regular member of Conference USA starting with the 2003 football season. Go Eagles beat the Bulls.
September 28, 2002, get ready its time for the Southern Miss vs. ARMY conference game. Southern Miss vs. ARMY at Michie Stadium at West Point, one of the best sports venues in America. College football in the Nation doesn't get any better than this, a great match-up between two outstanding teams. Come early for the game and see The Long Gray Line on parade prior to the kickoff. Our national heroes came thru West Point, Grant and Lee and others from the Civil War, Pershing, Patton, Eisenhower, MacArthur, Westmoreland and Schwartzkoff. The Academy is a treasure chest of military history. Go Eagles beat ARMY. Take the ferry ride back down the Hudson River to see New York State beauty at its best in the autumn. Congratulations to Miss Alabama and Miss Mississippi, they both placed in the top ten in the Miss America pageant held on September 21, 2002. Miss Alabama was first runner-up to Miss America in the final selection. Check out the Miss America competition link to see the state representatives, Scarlotte Deupree from Alabama and Jennifer Adcock from Mississippi, a graduate of Southern Miss. Miss Oklahoma, Casey Presler, has family roots in South Mississippi and placed in the top five. We congratulate all of these women on their personal achievements and success in the pageant. September 21, 2002, get ready its time for the Mississippi-Alabama non-conference championship, Southern Miss vs. Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. College football in the South doesn't get any better than this, a great match-up between two outstanding teams. Come early for the Alumni Tailgating event prior to the game, great food and celebration with friends and alumni. Great effort on Southern Miss defense, Alabama had the momentum and line power to run. September 16, 2002, Congratulations to Derrick Nix from Attalla, Alabama; Conference USA offensive player of the week in the Memphis game and for the second week in a row. Sporting News national player of the week for the game against Illinois. Thanks Derrick for your character and determination in life and the game of football. FOX6 in Birmingham had a nice sports clip on Derrick Nix winning the national player of the week honors. September 14, 2002, get ready its time for Black and Blue, Southern Miss vs. Memphis State at the Rock. College football in Mississippi and the South doesn't get any better than this, a great match-up between two outstanding teams. Great win for Southern Miss. September 11, 2002, take a moment to remember those that lost their lives one year ago. Take a look at the 9/11 Remembering link on the left for a moment to reflect on the sacrifice that many made for their country. Southern Miss vs. Illinois in Hattiesburg on Sept 7, 2002. Great game, another big win for the Golden Eagles. Congratulations to Derrick Nix, the Sporting News National Player of the week and Conference USA offensive player of the week. FOX6 in Birmingham did a nice sports piece on Derrick's awards with replay footage. He hails from Attala, Alabama. Rod Davis was the defensive player of the week for Conference USA, congratulations Rod. It's quite an achievement to play and win a game against the Big Ten Champion from last year. Southern Miss vs. Jackson State in Hattiesburg on August 31, 2002. College football in Mississippi and the South doesn't get any better than this, a great matchup between two outstanding teams. Get your game face on, its time for college football in the South. Great win, the Eagles were playing like a winner and played good football on the defense, offense and special teams.
